Climate

Japan has four distinct seasons. Summer is from June through September and is hot and humid. During the winter months of December through February the Sea of Japan side gets a lot of snow while the Kansai area on the Pacific Ocean side is dry. The rainy season in June and July lasts for about 40 days, and from August through October there might be typhoons. In general April is the best month for cherry blossom viewing though this changes from year to year and from area to area. Cherry blossoms are only in bloom for one week or so. You can enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage from late October through November. Also, please be aware that Japan is an earthquake-prone country year-round. It is advised that you look up some earthquake safety tips before your trip.
